CorpoNation: The Sorting Process is a 2024 video game developed by Canteen and published by Playtonic Games. It is a simulation game where the player, working for the fictional megacorporation and country Ringo CorpoNation,[1] sorts genetic samples into tubes under a changing set of rules.[2] CorpoNation: The Sorting Process was released in February 2024 for Microsoft Windows, then Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on May 9, 2024.[3]

Gameplay and plot

[edit]

In the game, the player takes the role of a new worker for the dystopian Ringo CorpoNation, a fictional country and megacorporation. The objective is to separate different genomes into the correct tubes, while the sorting rules change at random days. Outside of work, the player can do a range of activities in their living quarters, such as messaging other workers, or playing the in-game mini-games.[4][2] As the game progresses, players are contacted by Synthesis, a rebel group, which the player can then choose to either sabotage their sorting duties in exchange for extra money, or ignore them, instead focusing on work and reporting dissenting coworkers to management.[5]

Development

[edit]

CorpoNation: The Sorting Process was developed by Canteen, a two-person indie studio based in Brighton, founded in 2020. The game was prototyped in August 2020. Canteen partnered with Playtonic in March 2023,[6] and the game was announced on March 17, 2023.[7] The game was developed in Unity.[8]

Reception

[edit]

CorpoNation: The Sorting Process received "mixed or average reviews" according to review aggregator, Metacritic.[12]
