Conor Reddy is an Irish politician and activist who has served as a member of Dublin City Council for the Ballymun–Finglas local electoral area since June 2024, representing People Before Profit–Solidarity (PBP–Solidarity).[1]. He is a member of People Before Profit.
Early life and activism
[edit]Reddy is from Finglas in Dublin, an alumni of St Kevins' College CBS in Ballygall and of Trinity College Dublin where he studied Genetics. In 2025 he completed a PhD in the School of Medicine at Trinity College Dublin.[1] looking at how stress associated with homelessness and low socioeconomic status "gets under the skin" to impact biology affecting ageing and the immune system.
As an undergraduate Reddy was heavily involved in student activism. He was a founding member of TCD Students for Justice in Palestine and served as campaign manager in the successful 2018 TCDSU referendum to adopt a Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) policy, establishing the TCD BDS group.[2] He played a leading role in a campaign against supplemental exam fees and student rent increases during the 2018 "Take Back Trinity" protests, and joined the "Take Back the City" housing campaign as a member of Take Back Trinity. During Take Back the City he was arrested while occupying a vacant property on North Frederick Street, requiring hospital treatment after his release from custody.[1]
As a postgraduate, Reddy was a co-founder of the Postgraduate Workers' Organisation (PWO), an All-Ireland union for PhD researchers.[1][3], he served as PWO President from 2023 to 2024 and represented the PWO in the National Review of State Supports to PhD Researchers, which resulted in substantial increases in stipends paid to state funded PhD researchers.[4]
Reddy has been involved in numerous local campaigns in the Ballymun-Finglas area, covering housing, public transport, special education and community safety. He was co-founder of Equality in Education Dublin North West in 2024[5] and in 2026 he was part of the group known as "Save Our SNAs" that led national protests on proposed changes to allocation of Special Needs Assisstants to schools.[6]
Political career

[edit]Reddy was elected to Dublin City Council at the 2024 local elections, winning a seat in the Ballymun–Finglas area with 1,249 first-preference votes (8.2%).[1] He is currently the People Before Profit group leader on Dublin City Council. He sits on the council's North West Area Committee, Housing Strategic Policy Committee and the Local Community Development Committee.[7]
2020 general election
[edit]Reddy stood as the Solidarity–People Before Profit candidate for Dublin North-West at the 2020 general election, his first time contesting a general election. He received 1,215 first-preference votes (3.8% of the vote) on the first count and, after the distribution of transfers, was eliminated on the final count with 6,308 votes, finishing in fourth place behind the three elected TDs.[8]
2024 general election
[edit]In August 2024, Reddy was selected as the People Before Profit candidate for the Dublin North-West constituency at the 2024 general election.[9] He received 2,917 first-preference votes, 8.9% of the total, and was not elected.[8]
