Collectors Corner is a plant nursery located within Gardenworld in Braeside, Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 1985 by horticulturalist Jeno Kapitany and his brothers Attila Kapitany and Tom Kapitany, the nursery maintains collections of cacti, succulents, orchids, bromeliads, and carnivorous plants, along with displays of fossils, meteorites, and minerals.[1] The nursery and its collections have been featured in Australian media including the ABC television program Gardening Australia, the television program Better Homes and Gardens, and news coverage relating to Titan arum blooms hosted at the site.[1][2][3]
History
[edit]Collectors Corner was established in 1985 within Gardenworld, a horticultural retail complex in Braeside, Victoria. The nursery was developed by Jeno Kapitany and his brothers through their family horticultural business, Paradisia Nurseries.[1]
Titan arum blooms
[edit]Collectors Corner has hosted public viewings of blooms of the Titan arum, a tropical species known for its large inflorescence. Blooming events of the species are infrequent in cultivation.
In January 2025, a Titan arum specimen nicknamed "Casper" flowered at the nursery. The bloom was reported by several media outlets, including 9News Australia, which noted that visitors attended the site during the flowering period.[3]
Melbourne Pollen reported on the bloom, noting the species’ pollination strategy.[4]
An earlier Titan arum bloom at Gardenworld was reported in 2017 by the Herald Sun.[5]
Awards
[edit]Collectors Corner has exhibited displays at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Displays associated with the nursery received recognition at the event in 2022 and 2023.[6][7]
In 2024, a Collectors Corner display at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show received a Gold award in the Visual Display category, with horticultural designer Monika Rogers among the contributors.[8]
