  • Comment: I have substantially revised the draft in response to the previous comments. I removed fundraising totals and other promotional or routine event detail, and I am not relying on the McGill Health e-News coverage to establish notability instead more so relying on the CityNews Montreal and adds the 2026 Radio-Canada and CTV News Edmonton coverage of Coda activities in Alberta. Sources affiliated with Coda or its members are used only for limited background information where appropriate. I am unsure as to whether to include the recognitions section for the award they won. The Coda Foundation (French: La Fondation Coda)is a Canadian registered charity that organizes volunteer support and other initiatives for people affected by cancer.[1] The organization developed from a student initiative established at Marianopolis College and later expanded to post-secondary institutions in several Canadian provinces.[2][3]

History

Coda began as a student initiative at Marianopolis College in 2019. In 2021, it was relaunched by medical students at McGill University's Campus Outaouais as an intercollegiate organization.[2]

By July 2024, CityNews Montreal reported that Coda had groups at 13 academic institutions in Quebec and Ontario.[3] The organization subsequently operated as The Coda Foundation, a registered Canadian charity.[1]

Programs and Activities

The foundation operates the Coda Comfort Crew at the Gatineau Cancerology Centre, where volunteers provide companionship and recreational materials to patients receiving chemotherapy. In 2024, McGill University's Health e-News reported that volunteers were present at the centre five days a week.[2]

Coda also organizes gift-distribution initiatives for hospitalized children. In July 2024, CityNews Montreal reported that approximately 50 volunteers prepared gift bags for distribution to more than 200 patients at CHU Sainte-Justine. The outlet reported that the initiative had begun two years earlier in association with the McGill University Health Centre and the Montreal Children's Hospital.[3]

In June 2026, Radio-Canada and CTV News Edmonton reported on a Coda group affiliated with the University of Alberta preparing gifts for pediatric cancer patients in Edmonton.[4][5]

Recognition

In 2024, Coda received a Forces AVENIR award in the Entraide, paix et justice category for university student projects.[6][2]
