Chrome Valley is a collaborative studio album by writer and poet Mahogany L. Browne and jazz pianist Sean Mason. It was released on April 19, 2024, on The Soapbox Presents, marking that label's debut release.[1] The album sets Browne's spoken word poetry to original jazz compositions by Mason, and is named for and inspired by Browne's poetry collection of the same name.[2]
Background
[edit]Browne, Lincoln Center's first poet-in-residence, commissioned Mason to compose music for a live performance piece after seeing him perform in Charleston, South Carolina. The piece was staged at Lincoln Center as part of Browne's residency, and the pair later recorded the material as an album in June 2023.[3] Browne and Mason discussed the album on ABC News.[4]
