Comment: Needs more inline citations to demonstrate that this particular type of locomotive should have its own Wikipedia page. Cheerio, Mattdaviesfsic. Talk to me. 08:18, 1 August 2026 (UTC)

The GK series of locomotive is a shunting and short-haul locomotive manufactured by CRRC Ziyang for China Railways industrial applications since 1990. The GK locomotives are used for the use of industrial, petrochemical, and mining operations. The series included the GK1, GK1B, GKD4 and GK1E. The GK1 and GK1B were formally recognized by the China Railway Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry Corporation on November 5, 1990.[1]
In 2020, select GK locomotives were refurbished by CRRC Ziyang to have hybrid traction to satisfy modern environmental concerns.[2] A 1992 GK1 was refurbished by CRRC Ziyang and the transportation department of Ma Steel in Anhui Province. This was the first commercial success meeting the Peaking Carbon Emissions and Carbon Neutrality goals. So it can directly replace existing locomotives, the GK locomotive had the same traction force. However, the locomotive was equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery and diesel gen-set power source. The successful refurbishment of the GK1 shows that mature locomotives can be preserved with hybrid technology in order to meet energy conservation and environmental protection regulations. [3]
