Life
[edit]Carl Haslinger attended the Akademischen Gymnasium school in Vienna before receiving formal musical instruction at a conservatory, studying composition and piano performance under Ignaz von Seyfried and Carl Czerny, respectively. Haslinger began public performance at age 18, touring the Austrian Empire and its territories until 1859, when, after an illness, he suffered a significant loss of motor function in his right hand.
Following his father's death in 1842, Carl Haslinger and his mother inherited the family music publishing business. The business reopened the following year in Kohlmarkt, known throughout the area for its numerous busts of classical composers.
Haslinger became the company's sole proprietor in 1848, after his mother's passing. Among the composers added to the publishing program during this time are Johann, Josef, and Eduard Strauss as well as Carl Michael Ziehrer. The majority of the publishing house's artist portraits were produced in collaboration with artist Josef Kriehuber.
After his death, Haslinger's widow Josephine, alongside two proxy holders, continued operations until the publishing house's eventual sale to Robert Emil Lienau in December, 1875.
Haslinger was buried at the Matzleinsdorf Catholic Cemetery (Matzleinsdorfer Katholischer Friedhof) in Vienna. In April, 1888, Haslinger's remains, as well as those of his parents, were exhumed and subsequently transferred to Windischgarsten. The Haslinger family grave has since been lost, as is common with Austrian cemeteries' frequent clearings and renovations.
