History

[edit]

Capsule Studio was co-founded by Mhamed Elmezoued, Stéphane Montel, and Raoul Barbet. Mhamed Elmezoued and Stéphane Montel both come from backgrounds in 3D animation and visual effects. Prior to founding Capsule, they served as CG Supervisors at Paris-based animation studio, where their work on commercial campaigns earned international recognition including a Cannes Lions Bronze Lion, London International Awards Silver, and a VES Awards nomination for [1]. Their combined expertise in filmmaking and computer graphics shaped Capsule's positioning as a studio that bridges cinematic storytelling with gaming content. Raoul Barbet is best known as game director of Don't Nod Entertainment's Life Is Strange series. He directed Life Is Strange (2015), which received multiple awards including the [2], The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (2018), and Life Is Strange 2 (2018-2019). His involvement brings deep industry knowledge of interactive narrative and video game development to Capsule's approach. The studio established its reputation through early collaborations with Focus Entertainment (formerly Focus Home Interactive) on projects including The Surge series (2017-2019), A Plague Tale: Innocence (2019), and later Atlas Fallen (2023) and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden (2024). In 2024, the client base expanded to include international publishers such as Ubisoft, Saber Interactive, Owlcat Games, Plaion, Garena, and Games Workshop partners. The studio operates with approximately 40 in-house artists and has produced work for over 50 video game projects since its founding. Notable productions include Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which reached 7 million players within nine months of its September 2024 release, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, nominated for Best Game Trailer at the 2025 Golden Joystick Awards, Farming Simulator 22, which sold 3 million copies within nine weeks of release, and Iron Harvest (2020).
