Can Uluer (born 1960) is a Turkish contemporary figurative painter. Born in Ankara, Turkey, he has worked primarily in painting and has also practiced ceramics. His work focuses on the human figure and explores themes including memory, time, silence, nature, love and human experience.[1]

Early life and education

Can Uluer was born in Ankara, Turkey, in 1960. He studied archaeology and art history. In 1980, he established his own ceramics studio in Ankara. His early artistic activity included ceramics and painting.

In 1983, Uluer held his first solo exhibition at Yapı Kredi Art Gallery in Ankara.[2]

In 1989, Uluer and his brother established a museum-restaurant dedicated to the memory of their father, the painter Rami Uluer, where works by their father were exhibited.

Uluer subsequently continued his artistic practice in Istanbul and periodically in Italy. His activities have included painting and ceramics, as well as work related to restoration, construction and architectural design.

Artistic career

Uluer is primarily associated with figurative painting. His works frequently depict the human figure and address themes including memory, time, silence, nature and human experience.[3]

His paintings use figurative representation together with symbolic imagery and an emphasis on light, shadow and colour. His work has also incorporated techniques and materials associated with traditional painting, including oil, pigments, gesso and tempera.

Awards and recognition

In 2018, Uluer received a Mention of Merit (Menzione di Merito) in the Painting Section of the Second International Triennial of Visual Arts of Ferrara, Italy, for his painting Time.[4]

Publications

Uluer's figurative paintings and artistic practice have been featured in publications by the international art journal Musetouch Visual Arts Magazine. His work was first integrated into the magazine's digital platform with a dedicated profile titled "Painting Sensuality", which outlined his approach to figurative representation.[1]

Subsequently, his work was included in Musetouch Visual Arts Magazine (Issue 31, Freedom Edition).[3] His paintings were also featured in the magazine's dedicated theme edition under the title "Silent Companion".[6]
