On September 14, 2026, Belift Lab announced that Illit would be releasing their fifth extended play Break Even on October 26.[1] On September 28, upon the release of the track listing, it was announced that the song "You're Under Arrest" would serve as the lead single.[2] The "Burning" version concept film for the EP was released later the same day.[3] On the following day, the promotion schedule was released.[4] Individual member "Burning" version concept films were released on September 29 for Minju,[5] September 30 for Yunah,[6] October 1 for Iroha,[7] and October 2 for Wonhee,[8] followed by the release of "Burning" version concept photos on October 3.[9]

Composition and lyrics

[edit]

Lyrically, Break Even presents and emotional arc through the four tracks.[10] "Super in Love" is about realizing your love for someone is unrequited, "More" describes the embarrassment of when "misunderstanding the relationship turns to irritation", "You're Under Arrest" depicts the severing of a relationship when one is at their limits emotionally, and "Pop" then switches the atmosphere, describing instantly falling in love with someone new.[11]
