Boldare is a Polish digital product design and software development company headquartered in Gliwice, Poland. It develops web platforms, mobile and web applications, and custom software for business clients.[1] [2] [3] As of 2022, the company employed around 200 specialists.[4] [2]

The company operates under the Boldare brand, created after the merger of the sister firms XSolve and Chilid, whose activity in the IT sector dates back to 2008.[2] [3] Boldare traces its origins to a software business founded in 2004 by Piotr Majchrzak and Anna Zarudzka.[1]

History

[edit]

XSolve and Chilid were established as separate companies in the late 2000s and provided web development and design services on the Polish and international markets.[2] [3] Several years later, their activities were consolidated under the Boldare brand, positioned as a digital product design and development company.[2] [3]

From its initial base in Gliwice, Boldare opened additional offices in Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław.[2] [5] In 2019, it was one of seven Polish software houses profiled in the report 7 wspaniałych w IT (The Magnificent Seven in IT), which examined employer branding and organisational culture in firms previously distinguished in a Clutch ranking of top Polish software houses.[6]

In 2021, Boldare reported that its revenue increased by 26% compared with the previous year.[2] [3] More than 90% of its income in that year came from clients outside Poland, with Western Europe and Asia accounting for the largest shares and smaller contributions from the United States and Poland.[2] [3] [5] In 2021, the company added 16 new business partnerships, particularly in Asian markets and the Middle East.[3]

In 2022, the company announced the opening of contact offices in Hamburg and Amsterdam, citing the aim of closer cooperation with clients in Germany and the Netherlands.[5] [7]

Operations

[edit]

Boldare develops digital products such as web and mobile applications, online platforms and custom software.[1] [2] [3] Its clients include organisations in sectors such as renewable energy, IT services, tourism, telecommunications and management consulting.[2] [3] [5]

The company works mainly with organisations outside Poland, in particular in Western Europe and Asia, and has carried out projects in markets including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the Middle East and the United States.[2] [3] [5] [8]

In interviews, members of Boldare’s technical staff have described the company’s use of agile software development methods, including Scrum, cross-functional teams and minimum viable product (MVP) releases, as well as client workshops on agile and Scrum practices at the start of projects.[9] [8]

Organization and culture

[edit]

Boldare has stated that it uses a holacratic organisational model, without traditional managerial positions and with self-organising teams that share responsibility for decision-making.[2] [3] [4] Polish business and NGO publications have referred to the company as a “turquoise” organisation, describing it as based on self-management and distributed authority.[4] [10]

Boldare’s organisational culture and use of holacracy have also been presented as a case study at employer branding events in Poland, including the 2019 Forum Employer Brandingu in Warsaw.[11]

In an interview with German technology outlet Golem Karrierewelt, the company’s chief technology officer described Boldare as combining software development, UX/UI design and business development services, and as applying agile methods and self-management in its internal structure.[8]

Community and research

[edit]

In 2022, Boldare SA established Fundacja Boldare, a foundation focused on educational and cultural initiatives.[10] Its activities include operating Szkoła Demokratyczna Grajfka, a democratic school in Gliwice, and plans to support students, contemporary forms of education and innovation-related projects.[10]

Boldare has provided pro bono technology services through initiatives such as Tech To The Rescue, including work for non-profit organisations in Poland and abroad.[2] [3] The company has also commissioned or carried out surveys on workplace expectations and reasons employees change jobs; findings on the role of relationships with managers and the importance of atmosphere, work–life balance and remote work have been reported in Business Insider Polska.[12]

Recognition

[edit]

In 2019, Boldare was included among seven Polish software houses featured in the report 7 wspaniałych w IT, which analysed employer branding and organisational culture in firms selected from a Clutch ranking of software houses.[6] The company has also received a main award from the Polish business daily Puls Biznesu for its remote onboarding model in the new work environment.[4]

The company’s website received an “Honorable Mention” from the web design awards platform Awwwards in 2018.[13]

Boldare and its executives have been the subject of coverage in business and technology media in connection with its financial results, international expansion and organisational model, including Polish IT and business portals and specialist outlets abroad.[4] [2] [3] [5] [8]

In 2021, co-chief executive Anna Zarudzka was profiled in the German edition of GQ’s business questionnaire series, where she discussed the founding of Chilid, its later merger with XSolve to form Boldare, and the company’s holacratic approach to organisation.[14]
