Black Whales are a band / art collective formed in.^[1], WA. in 2009. The group was formed by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter ^[2], drummer ^[3], ^[4] and ^[5], following the dissolution of former bands ^[6] / ^[7], ^[8] and ^[9]

The group's debut EP "Origins" was released the now defunct Seattle indie label ^[10] (founded by ^[11]' ^[12]. Following this debut, the group released by a limited edition 7" single and B-Side titled "Rattle Your Bones" on Portland indie label "New Canada". Three full-lengths followed - 2011's "Shangri-La Indeed" / 2014's "Through The Prism, Gently" and most recently, 2025's "A Guide To Photographing The Sun". The band has long been championed by Seattle's own ^[13] (90.3 FM).

Presently, the band members are Alex Robert, Ryan Middleton, Adam Fream, Dave Martin and Greg Franklin.
