Biogena GmbH & Co KG is an Austrian company based in Salzburg, specializing in the development, production, and distribution of micronutrient supplements. It was founded in 2006 by Albert Schmidbauer.[1][2] The company operates in the field of dietary supplements and related health services.

History

The history of Biogena trace back to the mid-2000s, when the company partnered with a group of doctors[3] who wanted to use micronutrient supplements as an adjunct to medical therapies. During this initial phase, the products were primarily distributed through direct sales within this network of medical partners.

"Under the entrepreneurial leadership of former business consultant and founder Albert Schmidbauer, the company evolved into an independent enterprise. Starting in 2009, Biogena began expanding through its own network of retail stores[4][5] Since 2022, Biogena has offered various biohacking applications in the “Biogena Plazas” as well as in "Biohacking Labs".[6][7] Additionally, several brands have been established within the company, including a dietary supplement line for pets.[8]

According to its own information, Biogena is active in the development, production, and marketing of micronutrient supplements. The products are sold both through its partner network[9]and via own stores and website.

In addition to dietary supplements, the company also offers services in diagnostics, education, and knowledge sharing for both healthcare professionals and individuals interested in health.

Biogena’s head office is located in Salzburg (Austria)[10][11] The production facilities of Biogena's supplements are outside the city of Salzburg, in Koppl. Parts of the production facility are open to visitors.[12] In addition, their are plans to open another production facility in 2026.[13]

Furthermore, Biogena operates further sites and shops in Austria, Germany, other European countries and the United States of America.[14]

Organization and key figures

Biogena is organised as a corporate group.[15] The management team consists of Albert Schmidbauer (CEO), Julia Hoffmann (COO), and Stefan Klinglmaier (COO). According to the company it employed over 400 staff in the mid-2020s, .[16] The annual revenue reportedly exceeded 100 million euros for the first time in 2025.
