He won the gold medal at the 2022 WT Presidents Cup Europe in Durrës (−63 kg) and the 2023 Multi European Games in Sarajevo (−68 kg). Erer became a two-time European U21 champion by winning the men's −68 kg titles at both the 2023 European U21 Taekwondo Championships in Bucharest and the 2024 European U21 Taekwondo Championships in Sarajevo.[3]

In 2025, he competed at the 2025 Summer World University Games in the men's −68 kg class, reaching the quarterfinals.[4]

Erer won the gold medal in the men's −68 kg category at the 2025 World U21 Taekwondo Championships held in Nairobi, Kenya. He defeated Jinho Mun of South Korea in the final to secure the world title.[5]

At the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships, Berkay Erer competed in the men's 68 kg event and won the gold medal at the tournament held at BMW Park in Munich, Germany. After receiving a bye in the first round, Erer defeated Moldova's Liviu Bugneac in the round of 32, Israel's Nimrod Krivishkiy in the round of 16, Greece's Apostolos Panagopoulos in the quarter-finals and Italy's Dennis Baretta in the semi-finals, all by 2–0. He then defeated Ukraine's Volodymyr Bystrov 2–0 in the final, winning his first senior European title without dropping a single round in five matches.[6]
