Bachittar Singh
[edit]Bachittar Singh is a British artist and printmaker based in the United Kingdom. His work spans printmaking, illustration, and mixed media, with a focus on environment, memory, and everyday observation.
Early life and education
[edit]Singh grew up in Handsworth, Birmingham, and is of Indian heritage.[1] He studied Art and Design at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2019, where he specialised in printmaking.[2]
During his studies, he completed a placement year in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, working in a gallery and developing his artistic practice.[3]
Career
[edit]Singh has worked as a printmaker, technician, and educator in the United Kingdom. He has been associated with the West Yorkshire Print Workshop, where he has worked as a tutor.[4]
In 2024, he undertook a residency in Gran Canaria, Spain as part of a selective programme supporting emerging artists.[5]
He has also led public workshops and events, including a live drawing session at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery as part of its public programme.[6]
Work
[edit]Singh’s practice explores relationships between people, place, and environment, often drawing on observational experiences in both natural and urban settings. His work incorporates traditional printmaking techniques such as etching alongside experimental processes and the use of found materials.
His series Ghetto Gardens examines themes of perception and environment through layered compositions and material processes.
Recognition
[edit]Singh’s work was included in a curated selection of student artworks published by The Guardian in 2018.[7]
In 2023, he was shortlisted for the Contemporary Printmaking Prize at Fen Ditton Gallery, where his work Ghetto Gardens was selected for exhibition from over 600 entries.[8]
He was also a participating artist in the tenth series of Landscape Artist of the Year, broadcast on Sky Arts in 2025.[9]
