Azleen Ahmed is a Maldivian politician who served as Minister of Home Affairs during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Early career
[edit]Ahmed was appointed Deputy Minister of Education by President Mohamed Waheed Hassan on 13 March 2012.[1]
In July 2016, while serving as Deputy Minister of Education, Ahmed spoke about the formulation of a National Policy on Open and Distance Learning. He described the policy as a significant step towards providing quality higher education across the Maldives.[2]
Minister of Home Affairs
[edit]On 1 August 2016, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom appointed Ahmed as Minister of Home Affairs.[3] As Home Minister, Ahmed also oversaw matters involving the Maldives Customs Service.[4]
In January 2017, Ahmed announced that the Maldivian authorities were preparing legislation concerning the abuse and distribution of alcohol.[5] He also discussed measures to address the smuggling of alcohol and the role of Customs in preventing illegal imports.[6] In August 2017, Ahmed launched new uniforms for the Maldives Customs Service during its 127th anniversary celebrations.[7]
