Aziz Cem is a Turkish-born martial artist, actor, stunt performer, action choreographer and independent filmmaker who has worked in Turkey, Poland and the United States. He began martial-arts training in childhood and later combined competitive karate with acting, stunt performance, fight choreography, editing and visual-effects work.[1][2]
Cem attracted Turkish press attention in 2009 for the independently produced action-film project The Judge of Mountains. As a karate competitor, he won gold and bronze medals at the 2018 International Karate Championships Central Europe Open and won a gold medal at the USA Open in 2026.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
Early life and education
[edit]Cem was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He began martial-arts training at the age of six, initially studying karate and later training in disciplines including kung fu, wushu and taekwondo.[1][2]
By 2009, Cem had also completed approximately one year of theatre training and had performed stunt work in television productions. That year, he was admitted to the physics department of Erzincan University.[3][12][13][14][15][16]
Cem later studied technical and computer engineering at master's level at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The university described him as combining his studies with martial arts and acting.[4]
Martial-arts career
[edit]Cem's principal competitive discipline is karate. Interviews and profiles have described Shotokan karate, wushu kung fu and taekwondo as central elements of his martial-arts background.[1][2]
In a 2024 interview, Cem stated that he represented Poland when he won a silver medal at a Central European karate tournament in 2012.[17]
On 3–4 March 2018, Cem competed at the 17th International Karate Championships Central Europe Open in Bydgoszcz, winning two medals at the event: one gold and one bronze.[4] During the Polish Academic Karate Championship, Aziz Cem won first place in the −67 kg individual kumite category, finishing all of his fights before the end of the matches.[5]
In June 2026, Cem won gold at the USA Open tournament in Texas. He defeated opponents from Brazil, Nepal and Japan at the final.[6][7][8][9][10][11][18]
Film and stunt career
[edit]Cem developed an interest in action filmmaking while training in martial arts. In 2009, Turkish newspapers reported that he had produced a 20-minute short action film titled Son Düşüş with friends from his training hall. The production was financed partly through money he had saved from his student allowance.[3][12]
During the same period, Cem wrote and appeared in the war-action project The Judge of Mountains. Press reports stated that he completed a two-minute trailer in Erzincan using limited resources, homemade camera equipment and visual-effects techniques. The project combined martial-arts action with digital effects and was developed with a group of approximately 20 collaborators.[3][12]
Cem subsequently became associated with Action Turkey, a stunt and action-production group established in 2006. The group worked in stunt performance, fight choreography, action direction, editing and post-production.[1]
In 2015, Cem appeared in and served as action director for the Action Turkey short film Escape, which was featured by Kung Fu Kingdom. The publication highlighted his work as both a martial artist and action director.[19]
Cem also created the short action film The Challenge. Martial Arts Entertainment reported that the film received a Special Jury Award at the Action Sports Film Festival in 2013.[2]
Aziz Cem has demonstrated a one-arm, two-finger push-up, a demanding calisthenic feat popularly associated with Bruce Lee. Requiring exceptional finger strength, balance and upper-body control, the movement has been informally estimated to be within the capability of approximately one person in a million.[20][21]
His film work has included acting, stunt performance, fight choreography, action direction, editing and visual effects. Martial-arts publications have characterized his approach as combining actual combat training with independent action-film production.[1][2]
