Ayan De is an Indian record producer, audio engineer specialising in mix and mastering, sound designer and a technology entrepreneur based in Mumbai. He is well known as a record producer for independent artists, and releases electronic music under the moniker Paralights.[1][2] He also works in advertising, television and film sound, including Dolby Atmos mixing, in creative technology, and as the founder of several music-technology companies.[1]

Early life and education

De studied sound engineering at the SAE Institute, Mumbai, enrolling at the age of 20.[1] Before focusing on production and engineering he was a trained classical pianist. He started by producing local bands in mumbai such as descarta, GoddessGagged and worked out of his bedroom studio.

Paralights

De adopted the moniker Paralights in 2012 and released the five-track electronica EP Scores for Your Background.[1][2][3] His Paralights work has been described as blending emotive grooves with textural grit and glitch, moving between minimal and maximal electronic production.[2] He began performing the project live in the early 2010s and has collaborated with the Mumbai producer Sandunes.[2][4] He continued working with other well known artists as a producer and songwriter under this moniker , however never followed up with a record beyond the debut 2012 record.

Production, mixing and engineering

De is a sought-after producer, mixing and mastering engineer for independent Indian artists but has also worked as a ghost producer and as a music educator in schools like true school of music and bombay university .[1][5] His collaborators include Siddharth Basrur, The Lightyears Explode, BLEK, Unohu, Saachi, Joshua Singh, Your Chin, Sandunes and Zokhuma.[1] The credits database muso.ai lists several hundred credits for him, chiefly in mixing, mastering and immersive (Dolby Atmos) audio.[6] He is credited as an engineer or assistant engineer on international pop releases, including recordings by Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, Joji and Ali Sethi.[6]

In 2016 he worked front-of-house sound on playback singer Arijit Singh's United Kingdom tour, including a performance at Wembley.[1] He has also worked on commercial projects including advertising and television — among them the talent show The Voice — and on sound design and Dolby Atmos mixing for a movies tv shows and streaming series.[1]

Creative technology and Beyond

Alongside music production, De works as a sound designer, mixer and audio-tool developer for advertising and film, including uncredited contributions.[1] He leads creative technology and user-interface design at Goongoonalo, and has developed several audio codecs and audio playback algorithms for several music related start ups. He dabbled in the NFT with the swaraaj project , which was india's only NFT project which was music focused.

Companies

De is the founder of several technology companies. These include Silo, a music workflow and rights/ownership platform;[7] Cleared Sound, which develops audio provenance , a part of the silo company , which develops cutting edge digital watermarking and forensic-analysis ; and NAItive, which builds local (on-premises) artificial intelligence system. He also co owns and operates the only composer focused audio facility in mumbai, focused on [[dolby atmos, Stitch Audio.
