Ashby Gentry is an American actor known for his role as Alex Walter in the Netflix teen drama My Life with the Walter Boys. He came to prominence following the series’ debut in 2023, receiving attention for his portrayal of a reflective and emotionally complex teenager.
Before beginning his screen career, Gentry earned a nomination from National Youth Arts in Arizona for his early stage performances.
Early life and education
[edit]Ashby Gentry was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, in a “small family.” He was named after his great-grandfather from his father’s side.[4] Gentry first became interested in acting while in high school in Phoenix, before going on to further his training at university. After high school he attended the Boston University College of Fine Arts (BU CFA), studying in the School of Theater.[5] He graduated in 2021 with a BFA in Performance.[6][7] He spent part of his youth working in a pizzeria kitchen, where he developed fluency in Spanish, reflecting his multicultural background.[8]
Career
[edit]Gentry made his screen debut in 2018 with a role in the short film Speechless, which marked his first recorded acting credit. Alongside early independent projects, he continued to develop his craft while completing his studies at the Boston University College of Fine Arts.[9]
In 2022, he portrayed the character Porter in the reboot of the television series Are You Afraid of the Dark?.[7][10] He gained wider recognition the following year for his role as Alex Walter in the Netflix series My Life with the Walter Boys, which premiered in 2023.[11]
In 2025, Brown starred in the Mooch directed by Jeff Ryan playing the role of a Joey alongside Louis Cancelmi and Molly Brown.[12]
