Background
[edit]Art for Good is a Singapore social enterprise founded in 2017 by art therapist Amanda Chen-Lee. Its studio is located in Siglap, Singapore.
The organisation provides art therapy, arts-based programmes and community art projects, working with groups including children from low-income families, persons with disabilities and other community groups.
It also provides opportunities for artists with disabilities. Art for Good is listed in the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raiSE) directory as a social enterprise.[1]
History
[edit]In February 2018, The Straits Times published an article on the development of art therapy in Singapore that identified Chen-Lee as the founder of Art for Good.[2]
In 2022, Art for Good participated in the Sands for Singapore Charity Festival at Marina Bay Sands, where it conducted pastel Nagomi art and clay workshops for members of the public. [View press release]
In 2023, Art for Good conducted an art workshop as part of the Ostomy Association of Singapore and Coloplast's "Patient and HCP Education Series”, an education programme for ostomates and nurses.
A September 2026 profile in Robb Report Singapore covered Chen-Lee's career and the founding and development of Art for Good. The article reported on her art therapy programmes and workshops for vulnerable children in Singapore and overseas, as well as her work with primary and secondary schools and organisations including the Young Women's Christian Association of Singapore and the Rare Disorders Society of Singapore.[3]
Activities
[edit]Art for Good provides individual and group art therapy, art therapy workshops, arts-based programmes and community art projects.
Its programmes have included activities for children and families, persons with disabilities, community groups and people in healthcare and caregiving contexts. Its work has included art workshops, therapeutic arts programmes, community murals, art-based fundraising activities and other creative projects.
Social Enterprise
[edit]Art for Good describes itself as a social enterprise that uses visual arts and art therapy in community and social-impact programmes.
The organisation is listed in the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raiSE) directory as a social enterprise. The directory describes its activities as including art therapy, art therapy workshops, art-as-therapy programmes, team-building activities and community art projects.
Founder
[edit]Amanda Chen-Lee is an art therapist, educator and social entrepreneur. She is the founder of Art for Good.
Chen-Lee holds a master's degree in art therapy and has worked in art therapy, arts education and community arts. Before establishing Art for Good, she worked in advertising and charity-related roles.
Chen-Lee has taught art therapy-related courses at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). She has also held professional roles within the Singapore art therapy community, including positions with the Art Therapists' Association Singapore.[4]
Her work has included art therapy and arts-based programmes involving children, persons with disabilities and other communities.
