Ari Erev (Hebrew: ארי ערב; born 1956, in Tel Aviv), is an Israeli Jazz pianist and composer.
Career
[edit]Erev studied under musicologist Tzvi Keren and jazz musician Moshe Osherowitz, and attended the Tel Aviv University Academy of Music. Since 1980, he has led various jazz trios and ensembles.[1]
He has collaborated with musicians including singer Edna Goren, bassist Eli Magen, Saxophonist Joel Frahm. Frahm is featured on Erev's 2012 album A Handful of Changes, and Magen is featured on his 2016 album Flow.[2] Erev's albums primarily consist of his original compositions, but also include jazz arrangements of Israeli popular music by songwriters such as Shalom Hanoch, Yoni Rechter, and Sasha Argov.[3]
He performs regularly in festivals and jazz clubs in Israel and in Europe.[4][5]
Reception
[edit]Writing for All About Jazz, reviewer Edward Blanco noted the "straightforward melodic patterns" in Erev's music.[6] Jim Burlong, of Jazz Views Magazine also reviewed his work, writing, "modern jazz sensibilities...remarkable tonality and improvisational skills".[7]]
