Anupriya Nagar (born 2004) is an Indian film producer and art collector. An economics graduate of the University of Bath in the United Kingdom, she produced the low-budget devotional drama Hanuman Ansh (2026), which became a sleeper hit at the Indian box office, grossing over ₹300 crore (US$31 million) within 41 days of release.[1] Media coverage of the film has described her as one of the youngest feature-film producers in the world.[2][3]

Early life and education

[edit]

Nagar was born and raised in Mumbai.[4][5] She moved to the United Kingdom to study economics at the University of Bath, where she also led outreach for the university's Women in Business Society and was active in its art and dance societies.[6][7][8]

While completing an investment-banking module in her final year at Bath, Nagar came across a newspaper article reporting that the Indian spiritual figure Neem Karoli Baba had influenced Steve Jobs.[9][10][11] She researched about Neem Karoli Baba's life, which was the basis for her debut film.[12][13][14]

Career

[edit]

Nagar had planned to take up a job in the art world in Switzerland after graduating.[4][15] Instead, she developed the idea from her university assignment into a feature film, Hanuman Ansh, a devotional drama loosely inspired by the life of Neem Karoli Baba.[16] She produced the film alongside Namrata G. Singh, Ragini Sona and first-time director Vishal Chaturvedi under the Swambhu Media Network banner, reportedly investing roughly a third of the film's approximately ₹2 crore (US$210,000) budget from her personal savings.[17][18][19][20]

Nagar organised a screening in Mumbai for children supported by the Angel Xpress Foundation, and said she engaged with more than 65 schools and universities in the United Kingdom to discuss the film's themes with young audiences.[2] She also spoke at the House of Lords about her experience as an international student and first-time filmmaker.[2]

Nagar has stated that a sequel to Hanuman Ansh, conceived as part of a planned trilogy, is in development.[3]
