Anonymous Video Analytics or Anonymous Video Analysis (AVA) is the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to extract information from video without identifying individuals. Most often used with public surveillance footage, AVA can be used to gain metrics such as engagement, demographics (such as age and gender)[1], and traffic patterns, which can be applied for marketing and public health purposes.[2] It is a specific form of video content analysis.

Computer vision evolved quickly at the dawn of the 21st century, as increases in processing power and advances in machine learning algorithms were made. Techniques in face detection and large sets of data allowed for analysis to be done in real-time, on a large scale.

Some examples of early adopters were shopping malls in Canada, notably those owned by the Cadillac Fairview corporation.[3] An investigation by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada was conducted in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding that adequate consent was not given for the information collected.[4]
