History
[edit]Amplus Academy first opened in 2014 as American Preparatory Academy Las Vegas (APA LV). The school was initially contracted with Utah-based American Preparatory Schools, a for-profit education management organization. After a financial dispute and subsequent lawsuit, the Las Vegas-based school changed its name to Amplus Academy in June 2020.[3]
Programs
[edit]Amplus Academy offers a dual enrollment (DE) program which allows high school students to be concurrently enrolled in both highschool and the local community college, College of Southern Nevada.
Lawsuit
[edit]By the 2019–2020 academic year, APA LV had 1,639 students and was paying the company $997 per student, approximately $1.6 million annually.[4]
By June 2020, the school's board of directors voted unanimously to terminate its management agreement with American Preparatory Schools. School officials said they had sought additional information about the services being provided and disagreed with how management fees were being spent. American Preparatory Schools subsequently filed a lawsuit against APA LV alleging breach of contract. The school also voted to end its relationship with the American Preparatory Education Foundation. As part of its transition away from American Preparatory Schools, the school was required to change its name.
