Dr. Allison Matulli, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, is a Florida based children’s author, educator, legal scholar and First Amendment advocate.[1] She is the author of Your Freedom, Your Power: A Kid’s Guide to the First Amendment (2023), published by Running Press Kids/Hachette Book Group, a book that highlights the true stories of brave kids that sparked change in their communities and left their mark on the legal history of the United States of America, as well as guiding young readers to be active and conscious citizens. [2] Her new Penguin RISE picture book, WE ARE FREE (September 2026), takes this mission a step further and aims to introduce children ages 0 to 5 to their First Freedoms [3]
Dr.Matulli is the founder and executive director of The Little Lawyers, an award-winning organization that focuses on empowering children through the understanding of their constitutional rights, civic engagement and social justice.[4] As a former school administrator and first-ever Florida International University’s Fulbright Global Scholar, she is now a fellow for the First Amendment at the Freedom Forum, where she shares her expertise on student free expression and digital speech rights.[5]
Allison Matulli is a graduate of the civic legacy of Howard University School of Law and works as a Pre-Law Technical Writing lecturer at the same institution, where she was elected for the first faculty cohort of the Google Career Launchpad Generative AI Leader Certification Program.[6] Dr. Matulli has recently published her doctoral dissertation Free Speech and Digital Citizenship: A Qualitative Case Study with St. Thomas University, and is affiliate faculty at FIU’s Maurice A.Ferre Institute for Civic Leadership. Her research about freedom of expression expands internationally, including landmark work in Colombia, Italy and Trinidad and Tobago.[7]
Her advocacy work have led her to connect with families and young people as a keynote speaker at events and book readings, partnering with organizations like PEN America.[8] In 2023, Matulli was named one of Miami's most prominent and influential black women in business and industry by Legacy Magazine, [9] and in 2024 one of South Florida's most prominent and influential black business leaders by the Miami Media Group. [10]
