Alain Michel Sabri (born December 4, 1966) is a Lebanese-French otolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon, academic physician, and healthcare executive. He is Professor and Chairperson of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery and Chief of Staff for Strategy, Academics and Innovation at Trad Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon.

Alain Sabri previously served as founding chairperson of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and held academic and leadership appointments at Mayo Clinic, the American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University, and Khalifa University^[1].

His clinical and academic work has focused on head and neck oncology, thyroid cancer, skull base surgery, reconstructive surgery, airway disorders, physician burnout, and medical education.

Early life and education

Sabri was born in Beirut, Lebanon, on December 4, 1966. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the American University of Beirut between 1985 and 1988, followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree from the same institution in 1992.

He later completed a Master in Hospital and Health Management (MHHM) at the Ecole Supérieure des Affaires in collaboration with the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris between 2011 and 2012. His master’s thesis was titled Hospital Affiliations: A Model for a University Hospital in the Middle East.

Medical and management training

</ref>]] Sabri completed general surgery internship and residency training at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., from 1992 to 1994.

He subsequently completed a research fellowship and residency in Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals of Cleveland between 1994 and 1999.

From 1999 to 2001, he pursued fellowship and instructor training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and The Otology Group in Nashville, Tennessee, specializing in head and neck cancer surgery, skull base surgery, microvascular reconstructive surgery, otology, and neurotology.

Career

Mayo Clinic

Between 2001 and 2004, Dr. Sabri served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at Mayo Clinic^[3] in Rochester, Minnesota. During his tenure, he participated in medical student education, surgical training programs, and research activities.

American University of Beirut

In 2004, Dr. Sabri joined the American University of Beirut Medical Center as Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery.

He later served as Acting Chairperson of the department from 2011 to 2013 and concurrently held the position of Associate Chief of Staff at the American University of Beirut Medical Center.

During his tenure, he participated in multiple institutional committees including accreditation, strategic planning, cancer care, ambulatory clinics, and research.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

In 2014, Sabri became the founding chairperson of the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

He also served as educational coordinator, residency director for surgical subspecialties, conference champion, and member of the institution’s CME and research committees.

Lebanese American University

From 2017 to 2020, Sabri served as Assistant Dean of the Lebanese American University School of Medicine and founding chairperson of its Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery^[4].

Khalifa University and SSMC
