Ajay Kumar Dey (born 22 September 1992), known primarily by his literary pen name Pranabanandan, is an Indian researcher, author, and cultural historian. His work focuses on the documentation of the Bhakti movement and the regional history of 16th-century Bengal.

Early life and education

Dey was born in the village of Satui, located in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. He was educated at the University of Kalyani, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2014. He subsequently obtained post-graduate diplomas in Journalism and Information Technology Application.

Career

Historical research and authorship

Dey's research specializes in the socio-cultural evolution of medieval Bengal. In 2026, he authored Nabadwip Dham: The Oxford of Bengal, a study of the intellectual and spiritual significance of Nabadwip as a historical center of learning.^[1] His research also explores gender dynamics within religious traditions, notably in his work Women in the Bhakti Movement of 16th-Century Bengal.^[2]

Literature and community work

As a writer under the pseudonym "Pranabanandan," Dey has published various works of Bengali poetry and short fiction. He is recognized by the Government of West Bengal as a registered folk artist under the Lokprasar Prakalpa scheme, an initiative dedicated to the support of traditional regional artists.^[3]^[4]
