Dr. Ahren Hart is a Scottish academic, researcher, and digital artist, based in Paisley, Scotland. He serves as Associate Lecturer and researcher at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), within the Digital Connectivity and Innovation Centre (DCIC).[1] His work spans 5G, 6G, edge computing, holographic communication, artificial intelligence, and immersive extended reality (XR) technologies. He served as Web Chair for IEEE ICC 2026, hosted in Glasgow, one of the world's foremost conferences in communications and networking.[2]

Hart was born in Preston, England, and is of Scottish heritage, having grown up and built his academic career in Scotland. He studied at the University of the West of Scotland, graduating in 2022 with a First Class Honours BSc in Computer Games Development. He subsequently undertook doctoral research at UWS, completing his PhD in Holographic Communication, Artificial Intelligence, and 5G/6G Networks.[3] His undergraduate background in games development directly informed his later research in holographic communication systems and real-time immersive environment generation.

Hart has over three years of higher education teaching experience spanning lecturing, supervision, assessment, and curriculum development. In his role as Associate Lecturer, he supervises 20 MSc Computing IT students through final research projects covering areas including AI and machine learning, cybersecurity, and web management systems, while moderating a further 20 students to ensure consistency and rigour in postgraduate assessment.[3]
Prior to this, Hart spent two and a half years as a Teaching Assistant in Mobile App Development at UWS, delivering lectures, lab demonstrations, and workshops on Android development using Java and Android Studio. He also designed and delivered a guest lecture series on React Native within the Dynamic Web Technologies module, producing structured slide decks, speaker scripts, and student-facing resources.
Under the EU Horizon Europe 6G-PATH project, Hart served as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Leicester and Aston University, presenting the Classroom of the Future concept — exploring how XR combined with 6G infrastructure can transform higher education delivery — and collecting empirical data on XR adoption from over 100 students to contribute to the project's KVI measurement framework.[4]

Hart is named as a Research Assistant at the DCIC and a member of the UWS/DCIC team for the Ayrshire 5G Innovation Region (5GIR), a £3.8 million initiative funded by the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and delivered in collaboration with North Ayrshire Council, South Ayrshire Council, East Ayrshire Council, and industry partners.[5] His work contributes to the development of XR-based workforce training modules underpinned by Vodafone and Ericsson private 5G infrastructure within the DCIC, which was established with £1 million in funding from the 5GIR project.[1]
Hart is also an active contributor to the EU Horizon Europe projects 6G-PATH (Grant No. 101139172) and P2CODE (Grant No. 101093069).[6] His work on P2CODE involved co-authoring technical deliverables D4.3 and D5.2, and delivering 5G-connected UAV and robotics integration across a 19-partner consortium.
Hart served as Web Chair for IEEE ICC 2026 in Glasgow, managing the conference web presence and supporting the organising committee.[2] IEEE ICC is regarded as one of the most prestigious annual conferences in the field of communications and networking.[citation needed]
