Adel Sharaf, the legendary Egyptian basketball player who won numerous leagues for Zamalek Club, and was awarded the Best Egyptian and African player in the 1960s.

Born in Sharkeia, where he was raised in 1940, and later fell in love with the sport of basketball. He joined the El Seka el Hadid Club in Zakazik in his teens, where he was spotted by Zamalek Club's Captain Tahseen Osman, which he later joined in 1950.

Winning numerous trophies and awards with Zamalek Club until 1960's, Adel Sharaf rose to fame as Egypt's golden basketball player. He played in Arabic tournaments, and later international basketball championships in Europe. Known for his fast breaks, and swift passes he won triple trophies over the years and was awarded Best Player of Year in Egypt 3 times, the Best Arabic Basketball Player and Best African Basketball player of the year.

He won the African Basketball Championship 3 times with the Egytpian national basketball team. The late Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser awarded him the national sports honour award for his achievements and efforts to spread basketball popularity.

After retiring, Adel headed to basketball coaching. He coached Al Tayran and Gezira basketball teams in Cairo, Egypt, and later the Ahly Jeddah, Riyadh and El Helal basketball teams in KSA. His teams won numerous trophies, before he coached the Youth National Basketball team.

He passed away in 2019, as a legend in Egyptian basketball history. Still influencing young players and living in the hearts of millions of Zamalek and Gezira club fans, as basketball player of the century in Egypt.
