Acute Inflections is an American jazz and R&B duo composed of vocalist Elasea Douglas and upright bassist Sadiki Pierre. Based in New York City, the duo formed in 2013 and is known for performing reimagined standards, original songs, and live storytelling at venues across the United States.[1][2]
History
[edit]Douglas and Pierre met in Brooklyn in 2012 and began performing together as Acute Inflections in 2013.[1]
Douglas is a vocalist, songwriter, and actress who made her Broadway debut in the original cast of the Tony Award-winning musical Fela! (2009).[1] Pierre is a classically trained upright bassist whose playing crosses jazz, Latin, reggae, and rhythm and blues.[1]
Music
[edit]Acute Inflections's repertoire combines reimagined standards, original songs, and improvisational audience interaction, with an emphasis on stripped-down arrangements and vocal–bass interplay.[3]
Since 2013, the duo has performed at New York City venues including Birdland and the Cotton Club.[1][2]

Media appearances
[edit]The duo's music was featured in the "Sound of Soul Food" episode (2021) of the cooking competition series The Great Soul Food Cook-Off, for which they wrote and performed an original song.[5]
They have also been featured on NPR's Live Sessions program.[6]
Touring
[edit]Acute Inflections tours nationally with their concert series Soulful Sounds, a candlelit show format that combines live jazz and R&B performance with comedy and audience storytelling.[1][7] The duo has performed in cities including Boston,[2] Pawtucket,[8] Glenwood Springs,[7] El Paso,[9] and the Bronx.[10]
A portion of every Soulful Sounds ticket supports the Renaissance Youth Center, a South Bronx-based youth music education non-profit.[10]
