Aanand Priya is an Indian actress who has worked in Punjabi and Hindi-language cinema. She portryed Veera Soni in the Netflix crime procedural series Kohrra (2023) and Mehar in the Punjabi web series Yaar Challe Bahar (2022).
Early life
[edit]Aanand Priya was raised in Chandigarh, having moved there at two years of age. She had early interest in dance and performance during her school years and subsequently took up collegiate theatre.[1] She then completed Master of Arts (MA) degree in Indian Theatre from Panjab University, where she studied stagecraft and methods of characterisation.[2][3]
Career
[edit]Priya made her acting debut as a teenager with a supporting role in the 2013 Punjabi youth drama Stupid 7[1] Following her debut, she performed extensively with theatre troupes based in Chandigarh and wider Punjab for over seven years.
She later returned to screen acting with appearances in Punjabi films, including the Gippy Grewal-starrer Ik Sandhu Hunda Si (2020) and Jal Wayu Enclave (2022).[2] She appeared in PTC Punjabi's Ji Janab—on which she also worked as an assistant director—and the mini-series Disha Di Wedding. In 2022, she played Mehar in the punjabi comedy-drama web series Yaar Challe Bahar.
In 2023, Priya made her Hindi streaming debut in the Netflix crime-mystery drama Kohrra, directed by Randeep Jha and created by Sudip Sharma.[4] She portrayed Veera Soni, the estranged fiancée of an NRI murder victim whose death sparks the central police investigation, in the series.[5] Critics praised her understated and realistic portrayal of trauma in the series.[3]
