AI House is an artificial intelligence startup incubator and venture capital organization based in Seattle, Washington. It was founded in 2014 as the AI2 Incubator within the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence, spun out from the institute in 2022, and rebranded as AI House in 2026.[1]
History
[edit]The AI2 Incubator was founded in 2014 within the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Its mission included helping founders with early-stage company building, including idea formation, customer discovery, recruiting, and technical strategy.[1] In 2022, the AI2 Incubator spun out from the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence and became an independent organization.[1] The organization operates both an incubator and a venture fund.[2] In August 2024, the organization announced plans for AI House, a physical hub for artificial intelligence-related events and a place for founders, investors, researchers, and nonprofits to interact.[3] AI House opened at Pier 70 on Seattle's waterfront in March 2025. The facility includes coworking space, offices, event space, and areas for AI experts and startups.[2] In October 2025, AI2 Incubator announced an $80 million third investment fund intended to support approximately 70 technology ventures over four years. At the time, more than 50 companies had graduated from the incubator, with nearly one quarter acquired and 90% going on to raise venture funding.[4] In June 2026, the AI2 Incubator rebranded as AI House. The organization formalized its activities around three areas: Community, Incubator, and Capital.[1] Sri Chandrasekar was named a managing director as part of the rebrand. The Seattle Times also reported on AI House's efforts to attract and retain AI startups in Seattle, including through its community and in-person programming.[5] AI House has also hosted public discussions about artificial intelligence policy and regulation, including a July 2026 roundtable attended by Washington Senator Patty Murray and other local leaders.[6] Over its 12-year history, the incubator had spun out more than 40 companies, including Xnor.ai, Lexion, Yoodli, Ozette, Roboto, and Casium.[1] Several companies associated with the incubator have subsequently been acquired. Anthropic acquired Vercept in 2026, while Docusign acquired Lexion for $165 million in 2024.[7][8]
