In 1988, 6MM (1116 am) launched playing a variety of music from the 60's to now, since 2018 the station has rebranded to 91.7 The Wave (91.7 FM) playing the same variety across the Peel, Perth and Bunbury areas.

History
[edit]6MM (1988 - 2018)
[edit]In 1988 6MM (1116 am) launched in Mandurah, WA, [1]due to the lack of local content in the Mandurah and Peel Region. The station was created by then new radio group West Coast Radio with 6MM being their first station. 6MM played a variety of hits from the '60's to now'. In 1996 its sister station 97.3 Coast FM was launched which plays 'Top 40', 'Contemporary Hits" following its sisters launch and decline of AM over the years the stations listeners dropped to an average of 4% in 2018.[2]
91.7 The Wave (2018 - present)
[edit]In November 2018, 6MM converted to FM on frequency 91.7 FM[3]. A part of the FM conversion the station had a rebrand to 91.7 The Wave with a new logo and new breakfast show, Gunners & Ali from sister station 97.3 Coast FM moved[4] over in hopes of getting more listeners on the new station. Although of the rebrand the station kept the same variety of music. In 2019 after the first radio survey released since rebranding the station gained about 15.5% of new listeners[5] becoming 2nd closely behind sister station in Mandurah. On December 23rd, 2019, The Wave launched on DAB+ the first station with sister station to launch on DAB in a regional market.[6] In 2025, the station got a second sister station, Youth Radio. Despite more competition from its new sister station and other stations from Perth, 91.7 stays closely behind Coast FM as the most listened to station in Mandurah.
