The 86th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), also known as Aussiecon5, is scheduled to be held from 27 to 31 July 2028 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre in Brisbane, Australia.[1] The convention will be chaired by Vix Richardson.[2]
This is the fifth Worldcon hosted in Australia, following four previous conventions held in Melbourne: Aussiecon (1975), Aussiecon Two (1985), Aussiecon Three (1999), and Aussiecon 4 (2010).

[edit]Aussiecon5 is scheduled to present the 2028 Hugo Awards, the Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book, and the Astounding Award for Best New Writer.
Site selection
[edit]Brisbane was selected as the 2028 host city by the members of L.A.con V, the 84th World Science Fiction Convention, in August 2026.[3] The Brisbane bid ran unopposed on the final ballot following the earlier withdrawal of competing bids from Kigali, Rwanda, and Nuremberg, Germany.[2] Out of 682 valid ballots cast, Brisbane received 610 votes.[1]
