Attack

[edit]

Ibrahim I. had an altercation with a group of people in a bar near Caen station. According to Le Parisien, he allegedly told the group, “Je vais revenir et vous tuer” (“I'll come back and kill you”) before leaving the area[3] and retrieved his vehicle. At 22:15, a black BMW struck pedestrians near a bus station in the same area. One person died at the scene, while another died in hospital the following day.[4] 9 other were injured, with some of them having serious injuries. The suspect Ibrahim I. was arrested at Ouistreham and immediately taken into custody. Investigators examined whether the earlier altercation was connected to the incident.

Victims

[edit]

2 people were killed, both Afghan nationals aged 35 and 28. 9 others were also injured, aged 17 to 36. Most were foreign nationals.[5]

Reactions

[edit]

The mayor of Caen called the attack a dramatic event, but ruled it out as a "terrorist motivation", [6] calling it a "fight that went too far".

The attack had lasting impacts on Caen safety measures getting updated [7]
