/lgbt/ is a board on the English-language imageboard website 4chan dedicated to discussion of the LGBTQ+ community.
Background and history
[edit]4chan is an anonymous imageboard website. The site has held a repution for being a source of online cruelity and far-right extremism. /pol/ and /b/ were the two most known boards on the site.
In March 18, 2013, the site added several boards including among them, /lgbt/, dedicated to discussion of the LGBTQ+ community. The board was added as the site's first one devoted to a social issue. Its addition was met with surpise among the site's userbase, many of whom questioned if the board was a hoax or added for April Fools' Day.[1]
Culture
[edit]Following /lgbt/'s addition, common threads involve discussion of reproductive rights, gender identity, and same-sex marriage. Users there were discussing their personal issues of hair removal, hormone therapy, and coming out.[1]
/lgbt/ was often nicknamed /tttt/ due to its predominately transgender userbase. The board's anonymity was used under that it allowed sincere opinions without the restrictions associated with having an identity, opposed to cruel forms of interaction often used by 4chan.[2]

Analysis
[edit]Despite it's existence, /lgbt/ hasn't been used in analysis as much as /pol/ and /b/ had. One user reflected on the general incomprehension of the board.[2]
