Dominik Thor is a professor of pharmacy, pharmaceutical scientist, and academic administrator whose work has included regenerative medicine, pharmaceutical sciences and longevity science.[1][non-primary source needed] He is president of the Geneva College of Longevity Science (GCLS) in Geneva, Switzerland, and is academically affiliated with the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest.[2][non-primary source needed]
His scientific work has included cellular regeneration, hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α), skin and hair biology,[3] and the development of educational and clinical frameworks for longevity medicine.[4] His more recent academic work has addressed physician education, evidence standards, clinical governance and the development of longevity medicine as an emerging interdisciplinary field.
Education
[edit]Thor studied pharmaceutical sciences with a focus on pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Florida, where he received a Master of Science degree. He subsequently completed doctoral studies in economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.[5][non-primary source needed] His academic background in pharmaceutical sciences and economics subsequently informed work at the intersection of biomedical research, biotechnology, healthcare education and entrepreneurship.[6][AI-generated source?][promotion?]
Career
[edit]Thor's biomedical work has focused on regenerative medicine and cellular processes associated with ageing, including HIF-1α-related mechanisms and their potential application in skin and hair regeneration.[3] In 2023, he was first author of a blinded clinical study in the Journal of Clinical Medicine examining a HIF-related hair-restoration technology.[3] He has also been named as an inventor on patent families relating to regenerative and dermatological applications. A United States patent for a topical formulation for use in alopecia, assigned to Tomorrowlabs GmbH,[7] lists Thor and Dominik Duscher as inventors; the corresponding European patent was granted in 2024.[8][9]
In 2016, Thor co-founded the biotechnology company Tomorrowlabs with physician-scientist Dominik Duscher.[10] The company developed applications based on research into cellular regeneration and ageing biology. Handelsblatt profiled Tomorrowlabs and its founders in 2020 and subsequently reported on the company's commercial expansion through Douglas and its planned entry into the United States.[11][promotion?]
Thor's work subsequently expanded from regenerative medicine into longevity science, including the translation of research on ageing into preventive healthcare, medical education and clinical practice.[4] As president of the Geneva College of Longevity Science, he has been involved in the development of postgraduate and continuing education in healthy ageing and longevity medicine.[4]
Thor has also commented publicly on the convergence of ageing biology, regenerative medicine and aesthetic medicine. In a 2026 Forbes article examining the integration of longevity science into aesthetic medicine, he discussed cellular mechanisms of ageing, the potential role of aesthetic medicine as an entry point into longevity-oriented care, and the need for stronger biomarkers, clinical validation and scientific rigor in the emerging field.[12]
