David Aceituno Silva is a Chilean historian and academic. He is an associate professor and academic secretary at the Institute of History, PUCV of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV).
His academic work has focused on the contemporary history of Chile and on topics related to historical memory and its teaching.[1][2]
He has also worked on topics including civic education, history education, and digital citizenship,[3] which he has addressed in academic publications such as the journal Millars,[4] as well as in activities organized by public institutions such as the Library of the National Congress of Chile.[5]
Biography
[edit]Aceituno earned a bachelor's degree in education and qualified as a teacher of history, geography, and social sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, where he later joined the faculty.
He pursued doctoral studies in history at the University of Valladolid in Spain and subsequently undertook academic activities at the University of Salamanca.[6][7][8]
Academic career
[edit]Since 2021, Aceituno has served as academic secretary of the Institute of History at PUCV.[3]
In April 2021, together with Pablo Rubio Apiolaza, he edited the volume Chile 1984–1994: Encrucijadas en la transición de la dictadura a la democracia, published by Ediciones Universitarias de Valparaíso.[9] The book was included in the Book Acquisition Catalogue of Chile's Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.[10]
In 2023, he was interviewed by the international news network France 24, where he discussed the development of historical memory in Chile on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the 1973 coup d'état.[11][12]
