Creditas Group is a Czech family-owned investment group active in financial services, energy and real estate. It was formed in 2021 by combining businesses owned by Czech financier Pavel Hubáček that had previously operated under the Unicapital and Creditas brands.[1][2]
The group includes Banka Creditas and MeDirect in financial services, UCED in energy, and Creditas Real Estate. It operates in several European countries, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Malta and Belgium.[3]
At the end of 2025, Creditas reported assets of €13.4 billion and profit of €249 million.[3] Forbes reported revenue of CZK 21.6 billion, EBITDA of CZK 7.4 billion and about 2,500 employees in 2026.[4]
History
[edit]Pavel Hubáček founded the investment group Unicapital in 2013. Its early investments included energy, real estate and agriculture.[1] Hubáček also invested in Creditas, then a Czech credit union, which received a banking licence in 2016.
In 2021, Hubáček reorganised his businesses under the Creditas name. Banka Creditas and companies previously grouped under Unicapital were brought together under CREDITAS B.V., a holding company based in the Netherlands.[1] Seznam Zprávy described Creditas as a new investment group formed from Hubáček's existing businesses.[2] The group increasingly focused on three areas: financial services, energy and real estate.
Banka Creditas acquired Expobank CZ in 2022. The bank was renamed Max banka and merged into Banka Creditas in October 2024.[5]
Creditas also expanded abroad. In 2023, it acquired the British electricity producer InterGen, which operated about 2.8 GW of generating capacity in the United Kingdom.[6] The company was sold to Sev.en Global Investments in 2024.[7]
In September 2025, Banka Creditas completed the acquisition of MDB Group, the parent company of MeDirect Bank, after receiving approval from the European Central Bank. MeDirect operates mainly in Malta and Belgium and had more than 160,000 customers and over €6 billion in assets around the time of the acquisition.[8] The acquisition expanded Creditas's banking business into Western Europe.[9]
Operations
[edit]Financial services
[edit]The group's financial-services businesses include Banka Creditas in the Czech Republic and MeDirect in Malta and Belgium. Banka Creditas provides retail and corporate banking, while MeDirect focuses on digital banking, savings and investment services.[8][9]
Energy
[edit]Energy activities are grouped mainly under UCED. The company is active in electricity and heat generation, energy distribution and supply, and decentralised energy infrastructure.[3] Creditas has expanded these activities beyond the Czech Republic, including into Slovakia and Poland.[5]
Real estate
[edit]Creditas Real Estate develops and invests in residential and commercial property. Its portfolio includes homes for sale and rental housing.[3]
By 2025, the division had more than 5,500 residential units in its portfolio, according to group CEO Jiří Hrouda.[5] E15 reported in 2026 that its projects had grown from smaller developments to investments worth several billion Czech crowns.[10]
Ownership and management
[edit]Pavel Hubáček controlled Creditas Group until 2025, when he transferred ownership to members of his family and stepped back from management.[4]
His sons later took responsibility for different parts of the business. Tomáš Hubáček oversees banking and financial services, while David Hubáček is responsible for real estate, development and energy.[4][11] Jiří Hrouda is chief executive of the group.[3]
