Fernando Data Chamboco (born 15 June 1998), known simply as Chamboco, is a Mozambican professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Moroccan Botola club FUS Rabat and the Mozambique national team.[2][4] A two-time Moçambola champion with Black Bulls, he was part of Mozambique's squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Mambas recorded their first victory at a finals and reached the knockout stage.[5]

Club career

Chamboco represented Clube do Chibuto from 2018 and, between 2018 and 2020, gained experience in the Portuguese lower divisions — all on loan from Chibuto — turning out for União da Madeira, Peniche and Bragança.[3][4] In 2020 he returned to Mozambique for good, signing definitively for Black Bulls of Tchumene,[4] where he became a mainstay of the defence alongside Nené and Martinho during the most successful period in the club's history.[6] Over the course of five full seasons he amassed more than one hundred official appearances and a full set of domestic honours — the Moçambola in 2021 and 2024, the Mozambique Cup in 2023 and the Mozambique Super Cup in 2022 and 2024[4] — and with the Bulls he also contested continental football, in the CAF Confederation Cup.[6] On 22 January 2026, Black Bulls confirmed his definitive transfer to Moroccan club Fath Union Sport (FUS Rabat), then 13th in the Botola Pro table.[4][3]

International career

Chamboco took part in the 2023 COSAFA Cup in South Africa, starting Mozambique's 1–0 group-stage win over Mauritius at the Princess Magogo Stadium, KwaMashu, on 12 July 2023.[7] Later that year he figured in the federation's preliminary list for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations,[1] and in March 2025 he was called up by coach Chiquinho Conde for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Algeria.[8]

In December 2025 Chamboco was named in Mozambique's 25-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.[9] Drawn in Group F, the Mambas lost their opener 1–0 to Ivory Coast, then beat Gabon 3–2 — the country's first victory at an AFCON finals — before a 2–1 loss to Cameroon; Mozambique advanced to the round of 16, where they were eliminated 4–0 by Nigeria.[5][10] He remained in contention for selection in 2026, but an injury ruled him out of the June 2026 national camp for the friendlies against Oman and Indonesia.[11]
