Rationales for and against categories by term

[edit]

See precedents at CFD:

Nevertheless there is a full-developed hierarchy at Category:State legislators of Indian States by term. – Fayenatic London 22:34, 20 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Naming format for current term

[edit]

In category series that use date ranges (e.g. "Fooian senators 2014–2019" as opposed to e.g. "Members of the 12th Fooian Senate"), the category for the current term should either be terminated with the expected end date "Fooian senators 2014–2019", or with "–present" e.g. "Fooian senators 2019–2024". (N.B. UK MPs.)

The format with a hanging dash "Fooian senators 2019–", formerly used in some cases, is not compliant with MOS:TOPRESENT. – Fayenatic London 09:07, 22 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

There was no consensus to use "present" rather than a future year at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2023_May_28#Categories_for_presently_serving_Indian_state_legislators. – Fayenatic London 07:46, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
