Callum Twomey is an Australian sports journalist and television presenter, best known for his coverage of Australian rules football. He serves as the Lead Football, Draft, and Trade Journalist for AFL.com.au and AFL Media. Twomey is widely recognized as an industry authority on the AFL Draft, player talent pathing, and trade movements.[1]
Career
[edit]Twomey joined AFL Media in the early 2010s. Over his career, he has specialized in coverage of the AFL National Draft and trade periods, producing breaking news, long-form profiles, and analysis of elite junior football talent across Australia.[2]
In addition to his written work, Twomey co-hosts the weekly trade and draft television and podcast show Gettable alongside journalist Riley Beveridge. He is also a regular contributor and panelist across various AFL broadcast partners during the trade period and trade deadline day coverage.[3]
Phantom Draft and industry influence
[edit]Twomey is the author of the annual Phantom Draft and Phantom Form Guides, which rank and predict player selections ahead of the AFL Draft. Within Australian sports media, his guides are frequently cited by competing news networks, metropolitan newspapers, and regional radio stations as the definitive benchmark for junior talent evaluation.[2]
His predictions have noted historical significance for their statistical accuracy in a volatile draft environment. For example, his 2015 forecast successfully predicted the first 15 selections of the national draft,[4] while his 2021 guide correctly forecasted the entire opening round sequence.[5] The terminology and rankings established in his form guides are commonly integrated into individual player biographies to contextualise their pre-draft prospects.
Other work
[edit]Twomey's work has occasionally extended beyond football reporting. AFL.com.au has featured him interviewing performers appearing as entertainment at the AFL Grand Final, including Robbie Williams, KISS and Katy Perry.[6]
