Alex Faivre (French pronunciation: [alɛks fɛvʁ]; born c. 2009) is a Czech student and researcher specializing in astronomy, astrophysics and physics. He is a multi-time international olympiad medalist, having achieved the highest overall score at the 2024 International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics for Juniors.[1]
Academic career

Faivre attends high school Gymnázium J. A. Komenského in Uherský Brod. He won the national round of the Czech Astronomy Olympiad six consecutive times across multiple age categories, qualifying for higher competitive brackets ahead of his age group.
In 2023, Faivre won a silver medal at the 2nd International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics for Juniors (IOAA Jr) in Volos, Greece. At the 2024 IOAA Jr in Nepal, he secured a gold medal and was named the absolute winner after achieving the highest score in the theoretical exam component.[2] In September 2025, he moved up to the senior division at the 18th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Mumbai, India, where he won a gold medal.[3]
In May 2026, Faivre represented the Czech Republic at the European Olympiad on Experimental Science (EOES) in Lund, Sweden, where his team earned a silver medal.[4] He also qualified as a national finalist for the 56th International Physics Olympiad in Colombia.[5][6]
Faivre completed a research internship focused on data analysis and programming at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He is also a member of the LASAR team, where he analyzes space technology.[7]
Awards and recognition
[edit]In June 2026, Faivre placed 7th in the national "High Schooler of the Year" (Středoškolák roku) rankings, which evaluate the extracurricular contributions of secondary students in the Czech Republic. On 17 June 2026, he won the national Nejlepší student 2026 (Best Student 2026) award organized by MICRORISC.[8] He has received formal commendations from the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic for his performances in international competitions.[9] In addition to his academic activities, Faivre has placed in regional youth piano competitions.[10]
