Alejandro Tinsly (17 May 1895 – 24 July 1961) was a Chilean politician and lawyer who served as a minister of Juan Antonio Ríos.[1]

Family and education

He was born in Valparaíso on 17 May 1895, the son of Alejandro Tinsly Gallardo and Ester Prieto Suárez.[2]

He completed his primary education at the Liceo de Hombres de Valparaíso and pursued higher education at the Law School of the University of Chile in the same city. He was admitted to the bar in 1918. During his university years, he served as president of the University of Chile Student Federation (FECh).[2]

He married Ana Isabel Lagunas Arriagada, with whom he had four children.[2]

Public career

He taught at the Valparaíso Law School and worked as legal counsel for Grace y Cía. and Sociedad Imprenta y Litografía Universo. He also served as military legal adviser to the II Division of the Chilean Army, and as a writer for El Mercurio and Zig-Zag.[2]

He was a founding director of the Compañía Chilena de Celulosa y Papel, president of the Council of the Central de Leche, executive vice-president of the Caja del Seguro Obrero, legal counsel of the Caja Nacional de Ahorros, and a director of Industria Azucarera Nacional S.A. (IANSA).[2]

He served as Minister of Economy and Commerce from 1944 to 1945 during the administration of Radical president Juan Antonio Ríos.[2]
