AFA Infrastructure and Development Sdn. Bhd. is a Malaysian infrastructure development and holding firm. The company operates as the central parent entity of the AFA Group. Through its operational arms, the corporation manages highway concessions, civil engineering initiatives, corporate real estate portfolios, and tolling operations across the country.
History
[edit]The company was formally incorporated on 6 July 2023.[1] It is headquartered within Batu Caves in the state of Selangor, Malaysia.[2] The establishment of the firm was driven by the leadership of Azmil Khalili Khalid.[3]
In July 2024, the enterprise finalized the acquisition of ANIH Berhad, which was the long-standing concessionaire for major eastern toll routes.[3] Following the regulatory clearance of this transaction, the acquired infrastructure unit was formally rebranded as AFA PRIME Berhad.[4]
Corporate structure and subsidiaries
[edit]AFA Infrastructure and Development conducts its commercial operations through five wholly owned subsidiaries, each with distinct structural roles.[4]
- AFA PRIME Berhad: Operates as the second-largest highway concessionaire by route length inside Malaysia.[4] It retains the administrative mandates for the 60-kilometer Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway and the 174.5-kilometer East Coast Expressway Phase 1.[3]
- AFA Construction and Engineering Sdn. Bhd.: Functions as the primary technical execution arm for structural highway expansions.[4] The entity handles both routine maintenance routines and large-scale asset modernization tasks.[4]
- AFA Systems and Services Sdn. Bhd.: Directs the deployment of localized toll collection mechanisms.[4] The division focuses on upgrading toll plazas with electronic transaction technologies.[4]
- AFA Project and Management Services Sdn. Bhd.: Serves as the corporate services framework for the group.[4] It handles human resources, corporate finance, and enterprise resource planning.[4]
- AFA Properties Sdn. Bhd.: Manages the real estate holdings and physical spaces owned by the organization.[4] Its signature development effort involves reconfiguring Menara AFA into a commercial workspace hub.[4]
Major projects and concessions
[edit]Following its mid-2024 corporate consolidation, the organization assumed oversight of a capital expenditure highway expansion program.[3] Valued at roughly 2.1 billion ringgit, the initiative entails expanding a critical 45.3-kilometer portion of the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway to a broader eight-lane layout.[2] The technical design also features the construction of a secondary two-lane vehicular tunnel near the town of Bentong.[4]
These capital infrastructure projects are executed under a Supplemental Concession Agreement ratified alongside the federal government of Malaysia.[3] The legal contract extends the operational toll collection rights and highway concession terms of the group until 2069.[3]
