Early life and ducation

[edit]

Aïda Ballmann studied drama in Gijón, and finished her degree in Seville in 2009. She trained in the Meisner technique in Germany and Spain.[citation needed]

Career

[edit]

Ballmann's first works in theatre were with the companies La Sonrisa del Lagarto, Fauna y Arte, and La Carbonería de la Lola, with which she participated in more than twelve productions.[1]

She also worked as a stunt performer, which led her to participate in the productions El Oro del Rin and La Valquiria of La Fura dels Baus.[2]

In 2012, Ballmann starred in her first feature film, The Extraordinary Tale, by J.F. Ortuño and Laura Alvea, shot in English, for which she was awarded best actress at the Cardiff Independent Film Festival.[3] and at Film Bizarro.[4] She was nominated for best actress at the Andalusian Film Writers' Association Awards (ASECAN),[5] and was reviewed in magazines such as Hollywood Reporter.[6]

She was awarded best actress at the Festivalito[7] for Perséfone and received the Leoncio Morales Award[8] for her contribution to the culture of her native island.

Ballmann participated in series such as Operación Barrio Inglés,[9] Una vida menos en Canarias,[10] Endlich Witwer,[11] Crossfire, Lo que escondían sus ojos,[12] El Tiempo entre Costuras,[13] Águila Roja, Brigada de Fenómenos[14] and Malviviendo,[15] and starred in various Spanish and international feature films. Among them were La Velocidad de nuestros Pensamientos[16] by Nacho Chueca, the German production Die Insel by Lars Ostmann, El Gigante y la Sirena[17] by Roberto Chinet, Atlánticas[18] by Guillermo García López, The Europeans[19] by Víctor García León, Gleich[20] by Jeniffer Castañeda, The metamorphosis of Narcissus, by the Iranian director Hamed Alizadeh, L´avia i el foraster[21] by Sergi Miralles or A una isla de ti[22], by Alexis Morante.

Of her short films, Five Minutes[23] by Genesis Lence and co-starring her sister Serai Ballmann, stands out. Its world premiere was at the Short Film Corner section of the 74th Cannes Film Festival. For this work, Ballman was nominated for best actress at VIFA 2022.[24]

Ballmann's debut as a director and producer was with the documentary Sand Path.[25]
