- Previous request (March 2026)
I recently possessed the template editor right, but it expired on July 1. I would like to request permanent template editor rights. I have met all the criteria for granting. I also am willing to prove I can be responsible again with possessing the template editor right permanently. CharlesEditor23 (talk) 05:13, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Could you point to a few examples of where you have used the right on high-risk templates in the past few months? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:35, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yes. I have used the template editor right on Module:Gridiron color/data & Module:College color/data, which are both high-risk templates. Here's the edit diff from May 22, 2026 from when I previously had the WP:TPE right and used it to change the HTML hex color codes for the Canadian Football League (CFL)'s Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Here's the edit diff from April 29, 2026 from when I previously had the template editor right and used it to change the historical HTML color codes for the National Football League (NFL)'s Dallas Cowboys. Here's the edit diff from March 29, 2026 from when I previously had the template editor right and used it to change the URL source reference for the California Golden Bears. CharlesEditor23 (talk) 03:40, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- Are the examples I've provided sufficient enough? The main reason why I'm requesting WP:TPE right is so I may be able to make changes to high risk templates such as Module:Gridiron color/data & Module:College color/data. I'm happy to answer any & all other questions. CharlesEditor23 (talk) 16:47, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
- I will note I haven't had a chance to look at them yet; please be patient. Primefac (talk) 21:53, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
- I will note I am somewhat concerned about a lack of forethought and/or sandboxing, specifically:
- Special:Diff/1348435472 and Special:Diff/1348440671, made 30 minutes apart
- Special:Diff/1358471990 ("testing adding historical codes") and Special:Diff/1358490055 ("never mind")
- That being said, there does appear to be a reasonable amount of sandboxing for some of these changes (e.g. Special:Diff/1348021134), and I am very appreciative of the descriptive edit summaries (With a courtesy ping to WikiOriginal-9 who edits the same modules without any summaries). As I think I've said before, no one is perfect (my talk page is a perfect example of that), and (so far) no one seems to have noticed or cared about the occasionally-rapid-reverts of changes. I'd like to wait to hear what MSGJ thinks about this since they asked the initial follow-up question, but I think at the moment I am tentatively an accept. Primefac (talk) 13:20, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

Hello! My bot CutlassBot is applying the {{Deprecated archive}} template (recently protected). I’d like template editor permission while the bot is doing its run to apply the template so that I can handle any issues that come up for example, I have one change request pending at Module talk:Deprecated archive. I don’t intend to change any other high risk templates during this run. This is my first template so I don’t meet the guideline criteria. Alternatively, maybe we remove the protection from the module, but I think it’s lower risk to grant me the editor privileges for 3 months. Thanks for considering! - If pppery is okay with it I'll just drop the protection for a bit; you're the creator and so I assume that you'll keep a good eye on it. Primefac (talk) 22:15, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- I was doing a periodic batch check of all templates with at least 5000 transclusions, and don't have much stake in this specific template. I wish we applied more categorical rules and had less of a culture of exceptions when applying protections based on transclusion count, but for better or worse we do have a culture of exceptions so there's no harm in adding one more (in other words, lowering the protection is fine with me). * Pppery * in solidarity 01:12, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Done, cheers. If you feel like having that discussion at some point, I think that would be a really productive brainstorm (even if it's just a casual thing on my talk page), as it's an interesting idea. Primefac (talk) 09:11, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

- Dw31415, is the above satisfactory? Primefac (talk) 09:11, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- I think the requester needs Module:Deprecated archive unprotected. The template page should probably be TE-protected, since it just calls the module and there is no reason to change it. I have implemented an edit request for the module, but the requester, who created the module, will probably need to debug it (carefully, since it is transcluded in 20K pages now). – Jonesey95 (talk) 12:37, 6 August 2026 (UTC)

I am requesting template editor to assist with maintenance on citation templates, infobox templates, and edit notices. I have experience in creating templates, such as Template:Gunbuster, Template:CRID, and Template:WikiProject Anime and manga top icon; and with fixing templates such as Template:NDLPID. I successfully got edit requests for Template:Nutshell and some edit notice templates. Another thing I plan to do with the template editor permission is to create edit notices that appear on talk pages, particularly for contentious topics or English language variants used. I adhere to safe template and module editing practices. Z. Patterson (talk) 22:24, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

Not done for lack of need and (potentially more importantly) a lack of demonstrated proficiency; I note the nutshell edit was reverted, and there are more declined requests than accepted. As a minor note, this editor is also applying for WP:PGM which should give them the ability to create editnotices. Primefac (talk) 22:36, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
