Canterbury Multi-Use Arena → Te Kaha (stadium) – The new stadium is commonly being referred to by the name "Te Kaha" that's been given to it. I don't think that it's controversial to use the new name. The only thing that is worthy of discussion is whether it is the primary topic. I don't think it is and the community in the Bay of Plenty remains the primary topic, at least for now. I shall leave a note on that talk page informing editors of this discussion. • Support per nom, although I wonder if "(stadium)" can be outside the parenthesis under WP:NATURAL, but fine with either. If the Bay of Plenty community is to also be moved as no longer the primary, then it should be to Te Kaha, Bay of Plenty as that and this stadium are both in New Zealand.   Just before others are swayed by your two comments, I disagree with both of them. "Te Kaha" is the name of the facility, and not "Te Kaha stadium". Therefore, if it needs disambiguation, that should be parenthetical. Secondly, how we deal with disambiguation of New Zealand items is outlined in WP:NCNZ, and the stadium would NOT be disambiguated with "New Zealand". It is a "feature within a populated place" and as such, the name of the town or city is used for disambiguation (i.e. "Christchurch" and not "New Zealand"). Schwede66 23:02, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

  Only offered the alternative as some sources use "Te Kaha stadium" and as decapitalised, can act as a descriptor. Neither of us were proposing the stadium be moved to ", New Zealand"? But the Bay of Plenty community, if as your nomination states may not be primary therefore would need disambiguation, although accept per NCNZ it should be Te Kaha (Bay of Plenty) or Te Kaha (community) instead. However to readers, both the stadium and the community are in New Zealand so seemed odd to have one be at a much vague title, so commented on that proposal. As per NCNZ, if the community is moved to Nate's suggestion, it surely would be confused with this stadium if this proposal succeeds? The community is not within any city or town, so opted for the region of Bay of Plenty.

One N Zee Stadium

It will no longer be known as Te Kaha. I know Te Kaha is still the common name currently but this might change in the future. This 'name change' is worth mentioning in the article. Alexeyevitch^(talk) 07:11, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

That 2024 article is a bit misleading (mainly what the officials said) and very overexcited about a new sponsor – Te Kaha will certainly be the only permanent name and non-commercial name for the stadium, but the city council has tied itself in knots, trying to have it both ways. The project's Statement of Intent says specifically a couple of times that it will: "Respect the names gifted being Te Kaha for the arena and Te Kaharoa for the whenua [land] surrounding and within the arena."

The council spent 2½ years and money promoting Te Kaha, and of course it caught on, it's a strong brand (literally), but when the sponsor came in, the council changed its tune, then changed it again, and now on many CCC websites you'll see it as the very convoluted:

• "One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha"

...which may be democratic, but it'll never fit into a chant...

This type of wording does exist at a few sponsored stadiums, and it rather implies that they see Te Kaha as the real name, but anyway. It may've begun in the U.S. – the first I can recall was Mile High Stadium being rebuilt as "Invesco Field at Mile High", 25 years ago. Something similar happened at Commonwealth Stadium in Canada, and in England there was "Sports Direct Arena @ St James' Park" (not an email address), and Christchurch had "AMI Stadium at Lancaster Park" – in all cases, it was because the older name couldn't be ditched; too famous or controversial, so it was sidelined.

With all that said, this doesn't affect Wiki much; it usually uses "unbranded" names (Wellington Regional Stadium, Rugby League Park, Waikato Stadium, Lang Park), and the usage is likely to fluctuate for a while. Another venue in Oceania uses this wording, in Australia (Geelong), "GMHBA Stadium at Kardinia Park". The Cake Tin in Wellington has just changed names again from Westpac/Sky Stadium to "Hnry Stadium" (sp?), which shows one advantage of not using the paid-for names – sponsors always have a shelf life, even if it's a long one. Some new 1-edit users seem to be very keen on the sponsored names, even signing up to promote them, without having looked up Wikipedia's approach to using them. - Responsible? Misleading cost statement.

"It was confirmed at the time that the final bill to ratepayers will likely surpass NZ$1,000,000,000." is a misleading statement as it fails to mention half the "$1B+" is just interest on the loan over the next decades. Future interest payments after opening are not included in building costs on any other page as typically revenue, capital gains and inflation outweighs the interest on the loan once the building is open.
