Please change "religion = " to "denomination = " in the infobox parameters. Christianity is already the religion, so that does not make sense

|religion= already displays in the infobox as "Denomination". It probably wouldn't hur to add |denomination= as an alias for that parameter, but since it will have no effect on what is displayed, I'm not sure it is worth the effort. Personally, I would rather see |religion= deprecated, as we already have a |church= parameter that seems like a better fit. No these are two different things. The |church= is part of the flow relating to the title; title ---> church ---> diocese ---> term of office. The |denomination= is part of the personal life section is used for the overall religious "flavour" of the person. So an American bishop could be church = Anglican Church in North America or church = Episcopal Church but they are both denomination= Anglican. They are not doubling up of the same thing. Deprecated parameter cleanup

@MSGJ and Archer1234: and anyone else interested, I am planning a cleanup of the conflicting parameters of this Infobox and to ensure that all parameters conform to MOS:INFOBOXNAME. To be clear, this will not change the display on any transclusions. What I am suggesting is reducing technical debt and reducing errors caused by conflicting parameters. The replacements I plan to make are the following:

While we are at this, should we also remove |nationality= per the long standing precedence of removing that from infoboxes about people? For those unfamiliar see this discussion as well as MOS:INFOBOXNAT and this discussion on Infobox Person.

@Jonesey95, Hike395, and Primefac: guidance requested here... Is there enough of a precedence here to move forward with removing |nationality= in a few days if there are no objections or do any of you feel that we need yet another RFC level discussion to ensure there is consensus for this specific Infobox. MOS is concise when it says "In biographies, a |nationality= field should not be used." I have seen exceptions made for indicating sporting nationality for sportspeople, but I do not see any benefit to having it present for religious leaders. The question for me is whether we remove it entirely, or deprecate it and recommend using |citizenship= instead, limited by the bulleted MOS guidelines. I see that |citizenship= exists here, though it is barely used. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:16, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

@Zackmann08: I'm bad at reading code, resulting in the following question. Are you suggesting merging Archbishop, Bishop and Patriarch into the single parameter Title because they are already displayed as one single line? Or are you suggesting reducing the number of parameters?

The reason I ask is that I could suggest a few instances where one is both Archbishop and Bishop, or possibly both Patriarch and Bishop, and would want the infobox to reflect this as the one is a prerequisite or ex officio position of the other. OJH (talk) 07:37, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

moving parameters to link title and term, like Infobox officeholder

Could |title= please be moved below the image related parameters, and |term= (term_start / term_end) be moved up so it is the next parameter. This is bring the infobox online with the likes of Infobox officeholder and to cement the relationship between title and term. And |native_name= need to be in the colours top section.

At the moment too many infoboxes are being changed to the likes of bishop-emeritus as title while leaving the term years referring to the "bishop of X" period.

I have also changed it so that the title has a background, which changes colour.

I have made all the required changes to Template:Infobox Christian leader/sandbox. Anyone interested can see how this looks at Template:Infobox Christian leader/testcases. Gaia Octavia Agrippa ^Talk 15:44, 9 July 2026 (UTC)

Couple of thoughts here looking at The All fields testcase

1. Should not ALL header's change color? Looks weird to have 2 different header colors.
2. Strongly object to putting the native name in the top. Already got 3 things going in that section. Please move the native_name back to the body of the Infobox. I am not particular about where in the box that goes though, just not in the above/title
