Linking editnotice guide in the notice

[edit]

Given that {{Editnotice/notice}} serves as a kind of quasi-documentation for editnotices, I'm planning to edit that template to link to Wikipedia:Editnotice over editnotice. Please let me know if there are any concerns. Cheers, Sdkbtalk 18:39, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Oops, seems I forgot to circle back to this. Thanks for implementing! Sdkbtalk 16:19, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

suppressing Template talk:Editnotice/notice

[edit]

The {{Editnotice/notice}} template is displayed when |expiry= isn't set, and a reminder the edit notice will never expire is fair enough.

However, the documentation (Template:Editnotice/doc#Expiry date) seems to think this message disappears when you do set an expiry date. This is not the case. After setting an expiry date, the message remains but shifts from saying "does not have an expiry time set. To adjust this setting, please update the |expiry= parameter" to "will expire 00:00, 1 January 0000 (UTC). To adjust this setting, please update the |expiry= parameter."

How do you actually get rid of the edit notice notice altogether? I'm not accustomed to having individual parameters called out this way.

The documentation does claim you can suppress the message (by setting |expiry=indefinite), but I want to have a regular expiry date AND still no noticenotice. Thanks CapnZapp (talk) 13:06, 3 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have closed this discussion, @Waddie96: you may want to make an edit request now. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 11:33, 18 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

|templatestyles = {{{templatestyles|}}}
+
|templatestyles = {{{templatestyles|Template:Editnotice/styles.css}}}

Per discussion referenced above: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Change_editnotice_appearance_for_mobile_contributors, consensus to add this default template styles to adapt the notice on mobile such that the icon appears smaller and any text that is larger than default is set to default for reasons mentioned in the discussion but in summary to be less "in one's face". The appearance can be overridden by setting |templatestyles= to another CSS sheet or a blank value I guess. waddie96 ★ (talk) 20:28, 18 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

 Done. Thanks for shepherding this through, Waddie. Now will go have a peek on mobile just to make sure this didn't blow anything up. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 20:38, 18 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
The editnotices when creating a new section at AN/I look fine on Chrome on Android. 👍 -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 20:43, 18 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I've removed the call to the templatestyles page. This isn't needed any longer because I obviated it just days ago upstream in Module:Message box/configuration + Module:Message box/fmbox.css and had little idea about the other discussion. Izno (talk) 03:57, 19 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
And that's despite participating in it. Sure would have been nice not to have had that discussion being simultaneous. Izno (talk) 03:59, 19 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I added it back. I'm not totally convinced about the icon manipulation - it probably makes more sense to treat those as having a max width of 100% rather than minimizing their size, which mobile used to (always) do all by itself, and that way we can respect other settings. We are not exhausted for vertical space even if you might have to scroll and scroll and scroll at times. Izno (talk) 04:11, 19 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

If the page is a redirect to a category, the link in the notice is incorrectly displayed as a category link, e.g. at Template:Editnotices/Page/List of people from Maluku Islands. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 09:39, 24 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Please apply Special:Diff/1317631689/1329394599 to add parameters |imageclass= and |imagerightclass= to be able to pass CSS classes to Module:InfoboxImage. These parameters are needed to pass skin-invert for dark mode support in editnotices like Template:Editnotices/Page/Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia Signpost. See the corresponding test case in /testcases in Vector 2022 dark mode. —andrybak (talk) 22:01, 25 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
